Katastrophenmelder sends SMS alerts only for truly significant disaster events. Its motto, in German: “No news is good news.” If no SMS arrives, you can assume nothing major has happened.

Idea & philosophy

The service is not location-based and deliberately filters out smaller or local warnings. It does not aim to replace existing systems such as NINA, KATWARN and cell broadcast but to complement them. The focus is Germany, Austria and Switzerland; international events are included. The site states more than 20 years of experience behind the project.
